Adult Coloring Gifts for Senior Colorists

Gifts for Senior Colorists
There’s no doubt about it – adult coloring is an exploding trend that has proven to be a fun, therapeutic activity for people of all ages. Due to the relaxation and mindful benefits of coloring, many nursing homes, senior centers, and senior social groups are incorporating adult coloring into their activity schedules now more than ever and people are having a blast!
With the increasing popularity of this trend, chances are you may have a colorist or two in your life. Because the holiday season will be here before we know it, I have created this fun list of gift ideas geared specifically for senior colorists. These items are intended to help create a comfortable coloring environment so your loved ones can get the most enjoyment out of their coloring experience.
Coloring Books for Senior Colorists
Keep it simple. There are a lot of fancy books available but when it comes to senior coloring, look for books with larger images and bolder lines. Too much fine detail can be overwhelming for senior colorists and isn’t necessary for a good coloring experience.

- Simple Little Angels by Anne Manera (Photo © Amazon)
- Big Spaces! Adult Coloring Book by Anne Manera (Photo © Amazon)
These four books are excellent for senior colorists. They provide simple to moderate image detail and still have a lot of fun variety to choose from. Perfect for both the beginner and the more experienced senior colorist, these books will provide hours of coloring entertainment.
Coloring in Comfort

Since coloring is supposed to be a fun and relaxing activity, the area used for coloring should be made as comfortable as possible. Senior colorists have unique needs and I found some cool solutions that make very thoughtful coloring-related gifts.
This OttLite 13-Watt task lamp is perfect for table top and desk coloring. Proper lighting is essential for eye health and this light features a long lasting, full-spectrum bulb that provides daylight brightness making it easy to see lines and make colors pop.
For the colored pencil loving colorist, pencil grips and an electric pencil sharpener are must-haves for the ultimate in coloring comfort. The grips cushion the fingers while coloring and are recommended by the Arthritis Foundation. Having an electric pencil sharpener reduces the hand and wrist movement associated with manual pencil sharpeners and makes pencil sharpening quick and easy. Any colorist would be thrilled to avoid any unnecessary hand cramps and these tools are a perfect addition to any coloring gift collection.

Winsome Lap Desk with Drawer and Foldable Legs (Photo © Amazon)
If the colorist in your life has any mobility issues, coloring on a lap desk might be just the trick. These little desks are perfect for coloring in bed. The lap desk provides a sturdy, solid coloring surface. It’s also adjustable, allowing the colorist to bring coloring books or pages up close for easier access. The one shown here features a little drawer that would be a great little storage area for markers or pencils.
The Best Gift of All
Individually or all together as a themed gift set, these items will make wonderful gifts for any senior colorist in your life. Making the coloring experience comfortable and fun is a thoughtful way to brighten anyone’s day and bring a smile to their face. But I saved the best gift idea for last…
Time. The best gift you can give to any colorist, especially seniors, is your time. Bring your own coloring supplies and sit with your friend or family member and enjoy coloring together. Drink some hot chocolate or tea… talk, laugh, and enjoy each others’ company. The time you spend together will create wonderful memories you will be able to look back on for many years to come.
