When did you get into coloring and what were the circumstances that led you to it?

Colorist: Myranda Fincher
Artist: Cynthia Caldwell
Book: Simple Symmetry Vol. 1: Mandalas and More
I started coloring the beginning of this year, 2016, when my BFF got me my first coloring book for Christmas. She got it to help deal with my stress (she was one of few that know my stress).
My dad died 2 years this May (2016) and I took on all the responsibilities of my mom, my childhood home, and all the bills (mine and my mom’s as she is unable to work and dad left us with nothing, no insurance to even lay him to rest). So I began teaching Zumba in the evenings, after working my full time job during the day to make ends meet, my brain was FRIED!
I am proud to say, I have re-found my ZEN! Since picking up my first pencil, shutting out the world, my stress has been depleting and I see the beauty in the world again.
Why do you color? What are the benefits of coloring for you?
To distract me from the worries of everyday life!
What are your favorite media to color with? Do you have a particular favorite type or brand or coloring tools?
Pencils are my favorite. With me being new I don’t have a favorite brand… YET!
What are the top 3 coloring tools you would not want to be without?
My Whimsical Mandalas by Sue, my Pencil sharpener and Q-tips (to blend).
What are some of your favorite coloring books, artists, and styles of coloring art?
Again, too new to have favorites yet! But So far I LOVE Squidoodles and OrnaMENTALs Volumes 1 and 2
. 🙂
What do you look for when choosing a book or piece to color?
Interesting and NEW Style pics – those that are DIFFERENT from the rest.
What’s your favorite place to color? Do you have any coloring rituals?
In the living room, on the couch with my hubby. (I am newly married.) I color a few times a week and the space set-up is a MUST! I need everything in hand’s reach and I must get all my pencils picked out and set up in order of color.
Would you share a favorite color palette?
I tend to go with BRIGHT and BOLD – The more colorful the happier it makes me!

What tip or piece of advice would you give to someone just getting into coloring?
Don’t STRESS! It’s a stress FREE zone, don’t judge yourself SO harshly. Go with your gut!
What coloring groups, websites, or resources do you recommend?
SuziQ Creations, of course, and I also love Steve Squidoodle and the Dover Publications.
From Myranda: “I have lost over 150lbs in the last 3 years, I am finally healthy, happy and finding my balance! A lot of thanks to Adult coloring! :)”
Myranda is 36 and lives in Columbus, OH.
