Perfect Gifts for Adult Coloring Beginners
The holiday season is fast approaching and if you have a family member or friend that has expressed interest in the hot, new trend of adult coloring and you want to fuel their creativity with fun and useful gifts this year, then check out this helpful Adult Coloring Beginner Gift Guide. I have compiled the perfect must-haves for any beginning colorist from beginner-friendly adult coloring books, a selection of intimidation-free coloring supplies, and easy storage solutions. All making great gifts for the beginner colorist in your life. I had a blast putting this list together for you so let’s get started!
1. Beginner-Friendly Adult Coloring Books
When selecting adult coloring books to give to a beginner colorist, the best idea is to start with a book that has a variety of images that can accommodate any coloring skill level. A couple great books for beginners are: OrnaMENTALs Feel Good Words Coloring Book and OrnaMENTALs: Splendid Symmetry
, both by artist Sue Chastain.
The reason I like these two books so much for beginners is that they both feature designs ranging from simple to moderate and allow the colorist to develop coloring skill at their own pace.
I especially love the OrnaMENTALs Feel Good Words because Sue provides the colorist with two different sized images. The first set of images is standard size and then she included the same pictures but in a smaller size which allows for the new colorist to play with different sized images all in one book. In the other book OrnaMENTALs: Splendid Symmetry, Sue gives us wonderful patterns to play with and provides lots of fun chances to experiment with different coloring mediums.
2. Coloring Supplies for the Beginner
Every new colorist needs a few different coloring mediums to choose from such as colored pencils, markers and gel pens. When just starting out, a beginning colorist may not know what his or her favorite medium will be so it’s best to pick out a small variety of fairly inexpensive coloring mediums to experiment with. Here are my top three beginner must haves:
Colored Pencils
These CraZart colored pencils are a great way to get tons of color choice for a super reasonable price. Quality wise, these pencils perform very well for their price range and will give the beginning colorist a good idea of how colored pencils work without costing you and arm and a leg. Be sure to throw in a good pencil sharpener as well. I recommend the Prismacolor Premier pencil sharpener as it works well with all types of colored pencils.
Markers
To give the gift of bold color, markers are an excellent must have to include in any coloring themed gift bundle. I like the Sharpie brand markers because they lay out rich, bright color and you get plenty of colors for a low price.
Gel Pens
Gel pens are another popular choice among colorists so I definitely recommend tossing in a set for your colorist to play around with. Lolliz brand gel pens are a good value for your money and the 70 piece set is often times featured at a great discount on Amazon. These gel pens come in glitter, pastel, metallic, classic and neon so there’s almost no end to the creativity one can achieve with these little guys.

Clipboard
My last supply recommendation before we get into where to keep all these items is a simple one. Get your colorist a cheap little clipboard. You can find them anywhere and they come in handy when people want to color loose coloring sheets and it provides a nice surface to color on when a table isn’t available.

3. Storage Solutions
We have covered most of the basics when it comes to putting together an useful, fun little gift bundle for any beginning colorist in your life. But one of the most important items we need to include is something to hold all these supplies!
Craft totes are very popular among colorists because they have a nice amount of room to store both books and supplies and are super portable which makes carrying everything a breeze. This Artist’s Loft Fundamentals Tote Bag is perfect for someone just starting out and also has plenty of room to accommodate an expanding collection of coloring supplies.
There you have it! A perfect little collection of items to give to your favorite budding colorist. I would suggest putting them all together in the craft tote and tying a cute little bow on the handle. These gifts, whether purchased all together or individually will provide hours of entertainment and creativity and the thoughtfulness of supporting a new hobby will never be forgotten.
